SHORT VERSION:

Billie Claire specializes in hand lettering, botanical illustrations, and graphic design. She loves making people laugh from the unexpected and enjoys pairing elegant florals with profanity and sass. Originally from New Mexico and raised by a family of scientists, she’s keen on getting lost in nature, embracing her dark sense of humor, and encouraging others to remain ruthless and unrefined. Billie Claire draws mostly with pencil and Micron ink pens, and produces all of her work from her little art studio in Richmond, Virginia.

LONG VERSION:

Billie Claire is an illustrator and digital artist specializing in hand lettering, botanical drawings, and graphic design. She loves making people laugh from the unexpected and enjoys pairing elegant florals with profanity and sass. Claire (named after her Great Aunt Billie Claire), is originally from northern New Mexico, where she grew up building forts and catching blue-tailed lizards with her sister. After going to school in New Orleans and falling madly in love with that city, she spent a decade in Austin, Texas, which is where Billie Claire Handmade was born (and where her obsession with tacos began). In search of change and new places to explore, Claire and her husband moved to Washington, D.C. in 2019, where her retail journey began, and she became a regular vendor at the historic Eastern Market in Capitol Hill. After a strange pandemic year, her husband, new quarantine puppy, and whole little business made the move to Richmond, Virginia; where she spends her days drawing inspiration from Belle Isle and Chimborazo Park and eating incredible pastries.
